Carbonology participated in the 2026 Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Development Seminar, held on April 14 as part of the 27th International Environmental Protection Exhibition & Conference in Shanghai. The event brought together experts from academia, industry, research institutions and international organisations to discuss the latest developments, opportunities and challenges facing the global CCUS sector, with a focus on how technological innovation can support regional low-carbon transitions and global carbon neutrality goals.
Andrew Zhang Hongxi, Co-founder and General Manager of Carbonology, delivered a keynote presentation titled From Startup to Market: Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production via Direct Air Capture of CO₂. He also participated in a panel discussion on “Facilitating Stakeholder Engagement in Regional CCUS Industry Development,” where he joined industry leaders to discuss the future of the global CCUS ecosystem.

In his speech, Zhang outlined the core logic behind scaling a tech startup from R&D to market adoption, emphasising that success hinges on four foundational pillars: vision, team, technology and capital. He then detailed Carbonology’s strategic deployment across these pillars.
He explained that the company’s core mission lies in carbon source substitution: breaking the resource bottleneck of traditional biomass feedstocks by leveraging atmospheric CO₂, an infinitely available carbon source, to pave a new path for global energy structure transformation.
Zhang also analysed the market demand and core value of the company’s first product, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). He stressed that as a critical solution for deep decarbonisation in the aviation sector, SAF not only meets the urgent global demand for carbon-neutral air travel but also fills a significant gap in the global industry, delivering both environmental and commercial value.

On the technical front, Zhang highlighted the company’s competitive edge, centred on its integrated technology pathway: direct green power coupling + AI-enabled flexible processes + Direct Air Capture (DAC).
Direct green power coupling ensures the entire production chain maintains low-carbon credentials, achieving full-cycle energy decarbonisation.
AI-enabled flexible processes boost production efficiency, cut operational costs and adapt seamlessly to diverse application scenarios.
DAC technology eliminates geographical and resource constraints in carbon sourcing, realising the innovative vision of “capturing carbon from air and converting it into fuel” and establishing a robust intellectual property barrier.
